I planned on taking a shower by myself for once. Guess that won’t be happening…

You should see the nice yogurt glaze she ended up with. Covered.
Chowing on breakfast. The cereal was just a snack.

My sweet friend mentioned the other day that she was going to make yogurt. I’ve wanted to try this for a while, but have been a big chicken. Since she was doing it, I decided to give it a try as well. I copied her on which recipe to use.* Hey, finding a good recipe is half the work! (In this case, probably more than half.)

What I started with. Would've been nice if I'd taken a picture at the beginning, eh?

I suggest starting 6-7 hours before you want to go to bed. I wasn’t paying attention well enough and started around 6… The whole time, until about 10 this morning I was all, “Did it work? Did it work? Did it work?!”

It worked!

BTW, I doubled it. (more…)

sweet girlie birthday cake!

I am a big fan of making my own birthday cakes. I think it’s more fun. More special. My Mom always made mine (as far as I can remember) and that’s special. I remember specific cakes she made for my little brother depending on what he was into. So I make my kids birthday cakes. They may not be the prettiest, but they will remember that their Momma loved them and did that special thing for them. Ki’s first was a bear. He’s also had duplos, a dinosaur, and one other I’m missing. (He’s planning on an armadillo for next year ever since we saw one in MO a month or so ago.)

So when I came across this blog post + pretty cake, I knew it was going to be Ella’s birthday cake. So I followed the link over to her sister’s blog for the recipe and it was oh so easy!

Ella’s Chocolate Bavarian Torte

I used a heart pan. Traced & cut out parchment paper and laid it in the bottom and the cake seriously plopped right out.
